Dogs that initially were thought to have been chemically burned in Lancaster in recent months may have actually suffered severe sunburns, law enforcement officials said recently.

News reports that at least seven dogs had suffered apparent chemical burns on their backs led to a public outcry over the acts of suspected animal cruelty. Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lancaster Station launched an investigation in June into the incidents, the Los Angeles Daily News reported.
